The Other Guys
By: Four Guys
When I go to a fast food restaurant, I don’t expect much, no matter the reputation. I walk in expecting to order a basic burger that is already assembled, with a side of deep fried frozen fries, and a drink. At Five Guys you get the opposite. Here at Five Guys they give you good quality home style freshly cooked meals.
At first sight, you see a building with a big sign that spells out FIVE GUYS in red letters. You walk into a clean and productive atmosphere, to see cooks preparing fresh food. The interior is pleasing and modern; with an outside set up. The main colors of the venue are red and white. The outside’s seating arrangement is to the north of the building, with plenty of shade and umbrellas to accommodate for any lingering sunlight. The open atmosphere and rhythmic music inside, gives Five Guys a relaxed and comfortable feel. The inside seating is a bunch of tables spread out, with no booths. The venue is kept very clean, even though you wouldn’t expect the floors to be due to the free peanuts, which are not allowed outside. The cooks all wear gloves, aprons, and a red baseball cap. Whenever there is not a line, the cashier is seen cleaning anywhere that is needed. The bathrooms are equally clean to the dining area. Having the name Five Guys, you can usually spot five employees working, two at the counter and three in the back cooking.
Living close to the border, Fives Guys made it a point to have bilingual associates, so it will not be a problem to order in Spanish. After asking one of the workers what kind of people visit the restaurant she said that military people and old couples are there regulars, but they get a lot of first time customers.
Being a fast food restaurant, Five Guys does not require a lot of service.
But the employees would not have a problem with assist you if requested. Unlike other fast food places like McDonalds and Jack in the Box, the workers have a happy attitude that makes you think they enjoy their job. Keeping in mind that all the food is made fresh, including their patties, the time it takes to get your order served is reasonable and not that long of a wait.
Now for the good part, the Food. Five Guys’ menu is not as big as other fast food restaurants, but it is original. All food served is 100% fresh, even the buns. The burgers here are served a little different. Every burger is ordered originally as a patty between buns, and you get to add topping for free. You have fifteen toppings to choice form, anywhere from onions to A-1 steak sauce. The Burgers can be made anywhere from plan patties to double patties with cheese and bacon. Not only are burgers served, but loaded dogs and sandwiches, with topping available as well. You also have a choice between regular or Cajun freshly cut and cooked fries. Inside there is a soda dispenser with a variety of a hundred plus drinks to wash your food down with. Here at Five Guys the cooks are not stingy with serving sizes. A large meal can really serve two people, with a little extra fries being left. The main goal of many basic fast food chains like In & Out and Burger King is to get the customer’s order out in a short amount of time. Five Guys chefs take the time to give you a quality burger in an appropriate amount of time, and it tells at first bite. The food has a home style taste with a fast food twist. Every table has free endless peanuts, and you can preorder your meal online at FiveGuys.com, which is something new coming from a burger place.
