Is Your Eyebrow Game On Point?

By: Celestes Rivera

Are you tired of the rashes, skin pulling, and even the hyperpigmentation that waxing your eyebrows can lead too? I know I was! Here in Yuma waxing services are available at  just about any salon, but are there other alternatives other than waxing out here in the desert Southwest? Yes, yes, yes! Nohemi's Threading Studio that's located right behind Sombreros and Burger King offers you a new way to get beautiful eyebrows. But wait, threading? What's that?

Threading is an ancient alternative to waxing, it offers you a safer and much more precise way of hair removal. This practice originated in the Middle East and Eastern Asia. Threading is done with a thin cotton thread that is twisted into a double strand, then it is swiped back and forth on the skin to quickly remove any hair. It easily targets single hairs which makes it perfect to shape eyebrows or remove any other facial hair. Unlike waxing threading doesn't leave your skin irritated or messy, plus no harsh chemicals are used in this process. The results should last you up to two weeks if done right. This practice is dermatologist recommended as well!

Threading is personally my favorite method of facial hair removal so when I heard we had a local threading salon I just had to check it out myself. Ofcourse I had to see what other Yumans were saying about Nohemi's Threading Studio so I went on their facebook page to check out their reviews. Just about every review had excellent things to say about this place and most gave it five stars. That being said I went into Nohemi's Threading Studio very confident that it would all go swiftly.

Finding the location wasn't very hard since on their website they are very descriptive with the directions to get there. The plaza at which it is located at is very small so parking is limited. Once inside I was attened by Carlena, an employee there, who helped me fill out the waitlist sheet and informed me that it would be a 20 minute wait. I didn't have a problem with that seeing that I wasn't in a hurry but, note to self, making an appointment prior to paying them a visit will make the process faster and smoother. The ambience was quite pleasant although it was a bit crowded, they offer some magazines for you to look at while you wait and if you have children you'll be pleased to know they have a little toy station set up for them. I loved the seasonal details (halloween decorations) they had up, it made the overall look of the room feel cozy and fall-like.

While I waited I was able to talk to one of the customers there, Ivan. He filled me in on who was the best employee there and his opinion about the place. "Nohemi is the one to make an appointment with if you want to get your eyebrows done super quick, she's the most talented one here."(Ivan) He also mentioned that he was quite happy coming here and does recommend it himself. He gave me permission to snap before and after pictures of his eyebrows so we could see the difference. He was getting his done because his homecoming was coming up.

25 minutes passed and finally it was my turn to get my eyebrows threaded. By now I was really wishing I had made an appointment. Carlena attended me and walked me to the station. She was really sweet and knew how to keep her customer(me) happy.  She was sorry for the long wait and then commented on my eye makeup, which ofcourse any girl appreciates getting compliments on. The setup of the room was real fancy and had an 80's vibe to it. The walls were a beautiful lime green and glass chandeliers hung above every corner of the room. Everything was very clean, new thread was always used and hands were always washed after attending a customer.

Carlena then prepped my eyebrows with aloe vera and then began to thread. She was very slow which annoyed me just a bit because it does make the process a bit more painful, but I was glad she was taking her time so no mistakes would be made. At other threading salons though the girls work much more faster. If you can't handle a little pain you might not be too pleased. It took about maybe 6 minutes to do both my eyebrows, I didn't ask for any brow reshaping just a cleanup and she did as told. More aloe vera was quickly added on to prevent redness, I always appreaciate this. I loved the outcome of my eyebrows. The whole expericence was quite comfortable, the only thing I would have to comment on is the speed ofcourse. I prefer to have it done quick so it's less painful but it wasn't too bad and the outcome was lovely so I didn't think it was a big deal. As you can see in the picture below my eyebrows are much more defined afterwards, zero stray hairs are left. They are exactly how I wanted them to be.

So how much will this cost you at Nohemi's? Just $10 ! Surprisingly I thought it would be more, in San Diego it's almost $15 to get them done. So getting them done here locally for much cheaper is a definite plus. They accept cash, credit, and debit. Carlena then provided me with a list of other services they have. (listed down below) They don't offer any discounts but if it's your birthday they will give you a free session, you just have to bring in an ID or drivers license. They are also conviniently open Tuesday-Saturday. (times listed below)

         Eyebrow Threading $10                                                            Open Tues-Friday 9:30am-6:00pm

Upper Lip $5                                                                              Open Saturday 9:30-3:00pm

         Chin $5

         Sides $10

         Cheeks $5

         Full Face $30

Henna *$10 (starting at $10 for 10 minutes of design, Samia Ali only takes appointments)

Out of 5 stars I give them 4.7! The service was great, I was treated kindly, ambience was just perfect, zero problems with hygiene, prices won't make you think twice about coming here and most importantly I got exactly what I asked for. I came in with high expectations and left with them all met. I will definitely be recommending Nohemi's Threading Studio. If you're willing to try something new with your eyebrows, Nohemi's Threading Studio won't dissapoint. It's never too late to get your eyebrow game on.
